Whichever way you say it, we’re right behind it! Since TRIBE Australia came into being back in 2008, we’ve looked for ways to create a sustainable business that gives the proverbial middle finger to fast fashion and all the waste that surrounds it.
THE TRUTH
-
The reality is, we only have one Earth. With Australia alone generating upwards of 75 million tons of waste, we’re fast running out of room to manage it all - but waste is not only an issue for us on land.
-
8 million tons of waste end up in our seas every single year, including 640 thousand tons of abandoned fishing gear, including fishing nets. This has increased the incidence of “ghost fishing”, which traps sea life in unused netting, harming over 800 marine species worldwide.
We’re committed to doing our bit to reduce waste and protect marine life by utilising recycled materials to create high-quality pieces that stand the test of time.
How your purchase makes a difference
As part of our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship, we've chosen to utilise recycled fishing nets as a key component in our swimwear production process.
Made from waste collected from the ocean through the Healthy Seas Initiative, ECONYL® is a 100% regenerated nylon yarn that delivers the same performance as standard polyamide.
By incorporating discarded fishing nets into our production process, we're working hand-in-hand with the Healthy Seas Initiative to create a tangible, positive impact on our planet. We're not only contributing to the removal of hazardous waste from our oceans but we’re also supporting local communities that rely on fishing for their livelihoods.
We hope you'll join us on this exciting journey towards a healthier, more sustainable future.
our sustainable swimwear fabrics
We employ three distinct eco-friendly fabrics, made from recycled fishing nets, in our Australian sustainable swimwear range.
Nylon Elastane
Double-lined, gentle texture with a standard weight of 180 GSM, providing a comfortable, slightly tighter knit for more support.
Chloroban
Chlorine resistant fabric that takes swimwear to a higher level of fabric performance with great stretch, shape, and colour retention.
Eco-Polyester
Weightier 250 GSM offers exceptional wearability and durability while addressing transparency issues and ensuring print vibrancy.
Quality, longevity, waste reduction.
Using sustainable fabrics is just one way we are trying to build a better world. Our hands-on approach to every piece we create means our men’s swimwear is also built to last.
Just like your favourite pair of jeans, your swimmers should see you through many years of fun in the sun (although we won’t blame you if you want to stock up on more than one pair!).
